Where is here?

Where is here? Here, in physical location, is Omaha. Our small Dutch-colonial 1923 house is twelve blocks north of Dodge Street, near the UNO campus. We're on the edge of the Dundee-Memorial Park area. Our neighbors/friends to the east are from Canada, and our friend on the other side is from France. It's city living but with lots of old trees, a large backyard and a large wooded area across the street that obscures the houses most of the year. This is a place where we belong--even if, as someone once told me, everyone who lives in this part of town is a bit "quirky."

  1. Being quirky is the best part of the Dundee/Memorial Park area of Omaha! It's the neighborhoods like this that I love about Omaha. The houses are all different--none of the cookie-cutter neighbors that you find popping up in the new developments of Omaha. I am glad that there are strong neighborhood groups to keep the quirk in these areas!

  2. I was thinking the same thing as Kelly. I think a lot of people in and around English studies for any length of time is quirky. Your neighbors sound like fascinating people, and I'm sure they have helped you develop a special niche within your place in Omaha.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  3. Deb--The Omaha you (and I) live in allows quirkiness to exist. I don't know if you feel the same, but I feel like I enter into an unpleasant world west of 72nd. I go there a lot, have family there. But, it's not Omaha to me. I'm happy to hear another person proclaim the value of being weird. Looking forward to reading more.
